ContributionsNo, we're not talking about money (but there are costs to be met, so if you want to help either by advertising in our BusinessCHOICE section or with a direct donation then please contact us) The contributions we are talking about here are your photos, memories, articles for the newsletter, planned events etc. Whatever you can provide will help us make this site more and more interesting and thereby help us grow. Sending in written material is simple in this day and age and needs little said about it - other than, if you do have any questions, feel free to ask. The real purpose of this page is to talk about photographs. Along with the various communication tools we have set up, your photographs are going to be the lifeblood of this website , but as you'll have seen from our existing pictures, the quality can vary tremendously, so I would like to supply some guidelines which will help me to do the best job I can for you. I would like all the images on this site to look like this:
rather than this:
and I'm sure you would too! The condition of your pictures You may be hesitant to submit a photo because you think it's too badly damaged - well, take a look at these before and after shots:
I don't promise miracles, but let me take a look at it! Getting the pictures to us Let's get the easy one out of the way first - your photos are likely to be irreplaceable. If you don't have a scanner, then get someone else to scan them. If you don't know anyone with a scanner, then many "office services" or "computing services" will be able to help (more than likely for a fee unless they are run by a fellow Wemysser!). Whoever scans them will need to know that you want them in JPG format at 300dpi, resized to a width of 600pixels with no more than 50% compression. Then send the digital file they create to us. PLEASE DO NOT SEND YOUR PRECIOUS PHOTOS BY POST. If you do have a scanner then you fall in to one of two categories: 1. You know what you are doing Great - scan in your picture at 300dpi, resize it to a width of 600pixels, save it as a JPG with no more than 50% compression and send it to us. (In case you don't know, file size is dependent on physical size, not dpi, so 300dpi gives me some flexibility). If you are interested, then there is some really useful scanning advice at www.scantips.com* 2. Your PC came with a scanner but you've never used it! Unfortunately there are dozens of different scanners on the market and even more software applications to do the job, so it is not possible to supply detailed instructions. However, many scanners offer a one-touch operation for preparing an image for the web - please use that. Alternatively, experiment with the software to get the figures mentioned above. Again, you may well find www.scantips.com*of interest.
