The reasoning behind this is simple - to keep the costs down. However, there is no such thing as a free lunch and the price we have to pay is that we see banner advertising displayed on various pages - fortunately, the majority of it is fairly unobtrusive.

The small square banner ads in the top right of our pages, and the single pop-under page you see as you leave the site, are there to promote our sponsors - their fees help to ensure the continued presence of this site. Please use their services if you have the opportunity.

We have secured the use of some excellent images for use in our "tours" - to maintain the quality, we have had to sacrifice speed. The first time you view the pictures you will probably notice a delay whilst an image loads. Thereafter, a re-run will be much quicker as the image will now be stored on your cache.

Similarly, some of the "gallery" photos - particularly those in "Remember these folks?" - may be a little slow to load on first viewing.  We felt that detail and clarity was more important than speed.
