Ziggy & Anne's Postcards From Home (6)

The Belvedere, Dinner September 7th

Hello again everyone, everywhere,

This is one occasion when we will use that well known phrase "Wish you were here" - to all those that could not be with us of course

Friends from the Wemyss turned up from places like Cambridge, Pennycuik, Plymouth, South Shields, Glasgow, Edinburgh and from within Fife. Although Anne and I were the only ex-pats on this occasion we have already had notice of many more coming for the 2004 re-union to be held sometime in August that year. Keep your eye open on the website for details in the near future. Sandy will again be organising this event that will include a variety of "things to do together" over a few days. Stand by.

Anyway, back to September 7th.

First of all we would like to thank Gordon and his staff at the Belvedere for putting on such a good show and great meal - cheers chef.

It goes without saying, THANKS to all you friends from the Wemyss who attended, and especially the travellers, that made it a truly memorable evening.

As is usual on the occasions, we met in the bar where Frankie Burns and Jock the Pom Sizzles for a short while getting their act together. Jock the Pom (John Butler was accompanied by his lovely wife Sue.

'My wife and I had a thoroughly memorable evening at The Belvedere and made extremely welcome by old friends and new. I detected a great sense of community and pride, which made me both nostalgic and proud.

We had some wonderful laughs at old Australian memories and we enjoyed the company of some lovely new friends.

The evening was superbly organised and the staff at The Belv were very welcoming.
Don Allan looks better in real life than his picture and Ziggy's pictures are doctored to make him look slimmer. It was grand to see Ziggy and Anne again, who both retain their zest for everything Coaltown.

A truly memorable evening-Well done Friends'

Jock the Pom

The evening bought together friends that had not seen each other for 47 years such as myself with Grace Donson (Cairns) sister Sandra and Gordon Miller. The article for this topic and the evening in general should appeal in the local media.

Thanks to Marc, Sandy and Sandra's son, we managed to get all the guests together.
No easy task since one of the first pickups was ?????
Yep, Jock the Pom "I am in the middle block of the three high rise flats on Kirkcaldy prom"
Sandy "Well Marc has been sat outside for ten minutes"
Jock " No he is not, I am in the foyer looking out"
Sandy "Marc say's he is"
Jock " Hang on, I'll take a look"
On walking outside, Jock "Oh ****, I am in the first block"
Alls well that ends well and we all get together ready to eat.

As you can see the Belvedere staff done us proud, the dining room looked great.
Here are some pictures of the Friends from the Wemyss that managed to attend.

The following picture shows Christine Monaghan, Nancy Carstairs, Gordon Miller, Billy Bryce and Mick Nardone.

'Many thanks to you and your team for making the dinner such a success last night. Nancy and I were happy to be part of it'.

All good wishes for the future

Christine Monaghan

Next, the Corn's family. Bottom left Susan, opposite is Billy, Gary, Lindsay and Sandy.
Also, Bill Barker and Barbara Campbell.

Now we come to, Pete Fraser, Jim Clunie, Jacqueline Miller, Janis Bryce and Helen Nardone

'My wife and I just wanted to say how much we did enjoy the reunion dinner last night at the Belvedere Hotel, West Wemyss.

It was great to meet up with so many faces from my past and brought back many childhood memories. I wish to express my thanks to all those who invested so much of their time and effort to bring about this excellent night, and I look forward to such events in the future.
At the next function it would be great to be able to meet our Web master Rick to also thank him for all his efforts to our wonderful site'.

Can't wait for 2004 bash'.

'Thanks to everyone for a great evening and like you Mondo, maybe we can all get together around that time. It was great to meet old faces some not as recognisable as others. Also to meet some of the characters who contribute regularly hope to see you all soon'.

The line up here is, Bob Eadie, Jim Beavers (FiferJim), Pat McCulloch, Alexis Henderson, Bud Dryburgh, Vida Murdoch and George Donson.

There is a lot of concentration on the entrée rather than the photographer (we were running a little late due to someone moving the middle block of flats - just joking Jock the Pom) .

Heard from the manager Gordon

All of you who have said you are going to make contact - please do (don't forget PalTalk)

After dinner drinks in the boy's corner with Bud, Heggie and Andre Murd.

The girls hold centre stage with Norma, Caroline and in the foreground Alana overseen by Gary.

A bit of overspill and quick visit to the West Wemyss pub shows Neil Goddard, Ray Dalrymple, Alan and Anita Dryburgh, Don Allen, Sharon Dalrymple and Alan Ross

'I had a truly fantastic night, many thanks go out to all those who organised the evening and to all those who made me feel so welcome. I thoroughly enjoyed the company and cried tears of laughter most of the night. Such good fun, can we do it again this Saturday, can't wait to see the pics.

Thanks for such a fab weekend. I just wanted to let you know I've informed our family website of the site and I believe many have looked and intend re-visiting. Only 1 so far has signed your guestbook and said they found out from the Dalrymple Family Website so I just thought I'd let you know that's my family website'.

Thanks again

Sharon Dalrymple

All good things come to an end and this say's it all.

The nights are fair drawin' in and so is the holiday. We are back to Oz next Tuesday having enjoyed everyone's company and looking forward to 2004.

Best wishes
Anne and Ziggy
